People of Praise Member Blogs

Saturday, February 17th, 2007

The number of People of Praise members with an online presence has been growing immensely. And now, we have a way to track it. Justin has created a del.icio.us tag called peopleofpraisemember. It’s a great way to keep in the know of the latest of many people throughout the community.

To add some benefit to this post, I added all the RSS feeds of these sites to my Google Reader and have shared the page. If you’re looking for one page too bookmark to stay up-to-date with People of Praise around the ‘net, this may be it. You can also access an RSS feed of that page if you’re looking for one way to get all the blog information. Of course, if you find that I don’t have all the feeds or want me to change something, feel free to contact me.

Vine & Branches Now Online

Friday, February 9th, 2007

Vine & Branches Feb 07 CoverFor many years and even more so for the past year, Vine & Branches has been the newsletter for the People of Praise. I’ve always looked forward to receiving them in my mail box, but thanks to the folks at One:Ten Communications, we get to check ‘em out even sooner!

This month’s Vine & Branches is available in PDF format online. It looks good and is great to get a quick read of the latest news and information happening across the People of Praise branches worldwide. The funniest part? They mention The Rocket Summer, one of the artists that almost made it into my Most Spun 2006, a couple times.

The Community Section

Monday, January 15th, 2007

No, the “Community” section is not like the “Community” section of your local newspaper. That’s call the “Mass Transit” section on this blog (talk about politics based on only one issue!).

I’ve been very surprised recently at how many people have been interested and talking about Christian Community in the circles I sometimes intersect with. Of course, being a member of a Christian Community can help that, but sometimes I think our Christian community is a bit lonesome. It’s great to see others putting life in common, sharing life, and bringing Christ to others. Hopefully this section will promote discussion of what Community is, what the People of Praise is, and more.

Disclaimer: I am a covenanted member of the People of Praise but am by no means a spokesperson for the People of Praise. I am just a person trying to figure out what living life in common is all about. By no means is anything I say about People of Praise the community-wide doctrine; it is merely my opinion.

One of my favorite independent artists, Andrew Osenga, posted a great testament to his community on his blog. It was a delight to hear about the close-knit group of friends who were with each other through thick and thin. Of course, he also mentions Geof F. Morris, who seems to be near the center of almost every thriving Christian community online.
